Tournament rules

The tournament follows the Finnish national junior rules with the exceptions listed below.

The playing time is 2 x 20 min. The total playing time is 60 min. The total time starts at the time indicated in the game program, unless otherwise stated by the tournament management. The break between sets is 1 minute. The total time rule does not apply in medal games.

In the ranking, semifinals and medal matches, if the game ends in a tie after the regular playing time, the game will immediately continue with a shot-for-shot contest. The field players shoot in the order announced by the coach until a difference is made. Initially, however, 3 players from both teams, then one at a time if necessary, so that the same player does not shoot a second time unless all players have already shot once. Away team starts, goalies are in their own end. At the end of the playing time, a player in the penalty box may not participate in the shot-for-shot contest.

Timeouts are not used in the tournament.

No warm-ups are allowed on the ice, and the game begins immediately with the starting lineups. The starting lineup does not need to be named in advance.

The absence of a player's name or number from the scoresheet does not entitle the opposing side to object.

Tournament protests will be handled by the tournament jury, whose decision is final. The protest fee is 200 € which will be refunded if the protest is accepted. Payment is done using the following details: IBAN FI27 4055 3520 0862 24 / reference: Vantaa Lions Cup protest + the number of the match. Protests must be made within 20 minutes (calculated from the time game has officially ended) and signed by the team manager.

Game Misconduct Penalties

The tournament follows competition rule section 11: GAME SUSPENSIONS.

A Game Misconduct Penalty (PR) always leads to a disciplinary review and may result in a game or activity suspension. During the review process, the player may continue to play unless their cumulative behavioral penalties have been reached or if the PR was given at the end of the game.

A PR results in an automatic three (3) game suspension for an official. The disciplinary committee may impose a longer suspension if necessary.

In U14 and younger age groups, a PR given for violent conduct results in an automatic one-game suspension. The disciplinary committee may extend this suspension if needed.

A PR adds one mark to the player’s behavioral penalty record.

Skate sharpening

Sharpening is to be done in M1 ground level by the ice rink.

Subject to change

The tournament management has the right to change schedules and match order if circumstances require.
