Tournament Rules

Tournament Rules

The tournament will adhere to the current rules of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association (SJL).
Game time in each match is 2 x 15 minutes of effective playing time. The intermission between periods is 2 minutes. The total game time per match is a maximum of 40 minutes.
The tournament management reserves the right to adjust the game time for justified reasons.
Games will end no later than the scheduled time, regardless of whether the total game time has been fully played.
Timeouts are not allowed.
Referees have the right to remove any individual from the tournament for inappropriate behavior.

Game Format

Competitive Division

  • Teams in the Competitive Division will be divided into preliminary groups.
  • After the preliminary round, placement games will be played.
  • If a playoff game in the Competitive Division ends in a tie, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout (shootout), with one shooter at a time until a winner is decided.
  • In the bronze medal and final matches of the Competitive Division, the shootout will involve three shooters. If the score is still tied after three shooters, the shootout continues one by one until a winner is determined.
  • The shooters in the shootout must be different players until all players on the team have taken a shot. The referee decides by a coin toss which team will start.

Challenge Division

  • Teams in the Chanllenge Division will also be divided into preliminary groups.
  • After the preliminary round, placement games will be played.
  • If a playoff game in the Chanllenge Division ends in a tie, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout (shootout), with one shooter at a time until a winner is decided.
  • In the bronze medal and final matches of the Chanllenge Division, the shootout will involve three shooters. If the score is still tied after three shooters, the shootout continues one by one until a winner is determined.

Points System

Points are awarded in matches as follows:

  • Win: 2 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

Points

Points from matches are awarded as follows: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss.

Standings in the group are determined according to the following rules set by the tournament organizer:

  1. Goal difference in group matches
  2. Goals scored in group matches
  3. Points from head-to-head matches
  4. Goal difference in head-to-head matches
  5. Goals scored in head-to-head matches
  6. Penalty minutes in group matches
  7. Draw (lottery)
