Kylterien SM 2023 competition rules

1. The tournament uses version 2.0 of the IIHF rulebook 2022-2023, which has been translated into Finnish. Available http://www.finhockey.fi/index.php/tuomarille/saannot/saantokirja. It is the responsibility of the team participating in the tournament to familiarize themselves with these rules.

The special rules for recreational hockey (rule 204) are followed with the following exceptions/additions:

  • The tournament is not under the auspices of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, in which case it is not necessary to obtain a game pass.
  • 2+2min penalties are counted as two separate small penalty (rule 204, paragraph 5).
  • The winning goal contest is carried out by two pairs. If the situation after these two pairs is tied, we will continue one couple at a time on the sudden death principle until the solution.
  • Discipline and possible suspensions, see below. Section 5.

2. The playing time of the matches in the tournament is 2x15min, but the total playing time is 45min. If the match is not tied, it will end when the playing time or total playing time has ended. Officials will use the buzzer to let you know if the total playing time has passed. IF THE GAME IS TIED 5MIN BEFORE THE END OF THE ICE TIME, OR IS TIED DURING THIS LAST 5MIN, A SHOOT-OUT WILL BE STARTED IMMEDIATELY (CLARIFICATION ON 13.4 AT 15.24). In the event of a tie in the event of a tie at the end of the time or total playing time on the game clock, a winning goal contest is performed. The winning goal contest starts with two pairs. If the situation after these two pairs is tied, we will continue one couple at a time on the sudden death principle until the solution. In the first two pairs, the shooters must be different players, but in the sudden death phase, the player who shoots is free to choose. The winning goal contest is carried out at both ends of the pitch and the goalkeepers remain on their own goals throughout the competition. The away team will start the winning goal race. The order of performance remains the same throughout the winning goal race.

3. It is especially important for the smooth running of the tournament that the teams arrive on the rink on time. It is the responsibility of the teams participating in the tournament to be on the ice at the start of the match. In accordance with the rules, the referee will award a 2-minute team penalty to a team arriving late on the ice. Referees will take into consideration its own actions to minimize time losses, for example, at the start of the game, during game breaks and between performances in the winning goal competition.

4. The teams, players and referees participating in the tournament are responsible for their own adequate insurance cover for the duration of the tournament.

5. The organiser of the tournament shall endeavour to prevent any excesses in the matches. Due to that, discipline is partially automated in the following way.

If a player commits a violation of which he is convicted:

  • 10min or 2+10min → He is unpresentable for the next (1) match.
  • 2+2+10min, 5+20min or 5+25min → He is unpresentable for the next two (2) matches. In addition, the disciplinary jury appointed by the organising body of the tournament must take a position on the intentionality/recklessness of the violation and, according to them, assess the possible exclusion of the player from all the remaining matches of the tournament. However, if this has to be done, none of the participation fees paid will be refunded. The jury also has the opportunity, for weighty reasons, to reassess automated violations leading to unrepresentativeness. The jury can be contacted through the tournament organizer, if necessary.

6. The disciplinary jury consists of referees Joakim Rinta-Paavola, Joonas Nurmi and Eero Torkinlampi. If the jury is not unanimous on the consequences of the violation, a vote leading to a qualified majority is held among the jury.
